The speculum
Developing a medical device takes time. Over the past three years, we have been working behind the scenes to design and engineer a speculum to better serve patients and providers.
1. Three-leaved design provides a clear field-of-view without opening the speculum uncomfortably wide
2. Leaves space between the provider's hand and the exam table, eliminating "the last scootch"
3. Thumb-press button unlocks/locks the speculum position, freeing up the provider's other hand
4. No visible screws that pinch and no audible clicking, ratcheting, or clinking
5. Stainless steel is covered in autoclavable silicone, reducing coldness and making insertion less painful
6. Light that slots into the handle (to be developed in the next phase)
In December 2019, we revealed our prototype at Design Miami/ as part of Instagram's 'Design For All' theme.
Since then we have focused on finding potential partners with expertise and experience in medical device development and clinical testing who can help us take our speculum to market as quickly as possible. Currently, our speculum is not available for purchase or distribution.
